About a year ago, my last formatter board from my p2015dn printer went tits up. I guess they had some manufacturing problem whereby the BGA wasn't soldered down properly (thanks lead free solder, you suck!) Anyway, instead of coughing up the 140 bucks or so it seems it would take to replace the board, I baked it in the oven. Yep, that's right. I put the formatter board in the oven @350 for 8 minutes on a cookie sheet. It seems to be working now. I should have just done that with the first one.

I was googling the problem and someone else said they had luck with that, so why not.

Sean J. Aspinall federal building. Romero, shackled and dressed in a yellow jumpsuit from the Mesa County Jail, where he’s being held, expressed bewilderment at the allegations.

“I don’t get it,” he said, sitting alone at the defendant’s table. Of course avatar is a fox movie production, which is also owned by Murdoch. This week one of the show characters made some comment about locating someone on myspace. I'm working a lot. I'm out of the office until Monday, though. Somewhere in there I'll have to write an appeal brief. I should probably do that Saturday.

Tonight I'm driving to CS for some turkey with my old friend Chuck Angert. I used to share office space with Chuck back in the dark ages before moving to Denver. Every year he cooks for something like 30 friends and I'm always invited but never go. The only bummer is driving to and from CS all in one night. It's only 3hrs total, so I shouldn't bitch that much.

Tomorrow I'll probably spend Thanksgiving with Brett and Liz. Friday I've heard will be 60F, so I plan on working on the battery truck. I want to swap out the spark plugs and change the differential oil. If I'm feeling really productive maybe I'll replace the transmission fluid and the transmission filter.

The only downside to the transmission task is that you have to fill the thing through the dipstick hole. That doesn't seem all that easy to me. That tube is pretty damn small.

The dogs are fine. They shed like motherfuckers these days, so I'm vacuuming like every two days. That gets old. In addition, Jerry keeps bringing stuff in from the back yard (e.g., bits of wood, ice, etc.) which he happily eats on my carpet.

My workouts are so-so. Either I feel like puking or sleep in late because I was up at 3am. It is what it is, I suppose.

The new girl Samantha is in Chicago visiting family this week, so it's just me and the mutts this weekend.

I've been looking at getting a concealed carry permit for CO. I used to have one in ND, but that was some time ago. I don't have any real plans on carrying, but it would be handy in some cases to have the permit. Sometimes when I'm hiking or backpacking (especially backpacking) I'll carry. You can do that without a permit when you're in the woods, but in some cases I'll have a gun on me and will have to remember to leave it behind when I'm stopping for gas, groceries, etc. It would probably be better if I didn't have to worry about forgetting to leave it in the car and breaking the law.

FYI it's been cold here. We had a nice day or two the other weekend which may have turned into a nice motorcycle ride, but sister was in town and we were probably drunk that day.

Sean J. Obviously mounting and balancing tires requires some specialized equipment that I just don't have. Anyway, I had called around previously and the tire place down the street would do them for $15/tire, which isn't so bad.

I wanted a front end alignment too. During the alignment the tech checked the front ball joints. It's not hard to do -- you basically are looking for wheel movement. Anyway, it ends up that I have a bad front ball joint. They were kind enough to quote me $350 for the job, which I declined. Parts came to $150 and labor came to $200. After they mounted the snow tires I drove over to checker. Together the upper and lower ball joints are $36. I may need a press tool which runs $30-$50. I can probably do the job in a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.

Clearly I'm not paying someone $350 for something I can do for $36 in parts.

Sean J. It's cloudy...37F. It was awesome out yesterday, so I spent most of the day working outside and in the garage. I power washed the engine in the battery truck again. It's about as clean as it will get now, which will help me figure out if I need a new power steering pump. I think it may be leaking.

I cleaned the garage a bit, took a motorcycle ride over to a local high school to watch Hope play soccer (neighbor girl, 6), and the usual laundry, vacuuming, etc. Samantha has her grandma in town for a bit, so she's been sleeping here at night instead of her couch at her place. Basically she shows up at the end of the night and leaves early in the morning.

I'm not sure what the plan is today. I may pick up some snow tires on CL that I've been talking to a guy about.

Maybe I should do some touch up painting around the house. That, and watch a bit of football. I still have that gas dryer in the garage, so I should have the neighbor help me bring that down to the basement. That thing has been in there for most of the summer.

Sean J.
